Art Nouveau Anaglypta Dado
Re-Instatement

Re-instating a lost Anaglypta Treasure

This stunning Anaglypta Art Nouveau dado design was first introduced to market at the Paris International Exposition 1900. When we were contacted by the lucky owners of this Anaglypta dado, we instantly recognised it to be from a surviving show catalogue in our archives. Sadly, this was one of many designs that were discontinued in 1939, when many production plates and rollers were melted down for the war effort.

This fine example was installed around the 1920s in a late Edwardian Dublin home and still remains in remarkable condition on the staircase and landing. Unfortunately, damp has caused damage to the ground floor hallway area, so Frank was commissioned to replicate the design and make copies to reinstate the missing dado panelling. In this case, the homeowner was able to remove an original double panel and send it to us. In our workshop, Frank stabilised and repaired the original panel, which was then mounted on a backing board and used as the ‘master’ to make a mould. After that, Frank cast 13 replica double panels then we travelled to Dublin to install them on both sides of the downstairs hallway.

Our clients are delighted with their new hallway renovation, especially the fact they were able to keep this beautiful vintage design.
